Reflecting on #WorldBookDay2017

For World Book Day 2017, Ali and I decided to go to a costume rental shop to choose costumes.  After trying on many costumes, we finally settled on two completely different costumes.  Ali chose the formidable White Witch of Narnia and I chose Peter Pan!  What the two have to do with one another we will never know!  A big thank you goes out to the Red Lantern Costume shop for their help!  They were incredibly enthusiastic and supportive and the costumes they have made for different productions are tremendously creative and fun to try on.

Having rented our wacky costumes, we met the wonderful Caroline Reynolds, an English Teacher at Southfields Academy.  Caroline was dressed as the wolf from Grim Fairytales and she almost scared the life out of us!

We had the most wonderful time delivering books donated by our great partner Give A Book to all of the pupils who took part in our Instagram Competition.  They were asked to take a photo of themselves with their favourite book and say why it was their favourite book.  We roamed the halls of Southfields Academy, stopping in classrooms where Ms Reynolds would announce the participants and they had the opportunity to choose a book from the pile we brought.  Many of the pupils who did not participate said they would definitely do so next year!  The winner of the competition was awarded two cinema tickets at an assembly the next day.  The winner was  Najlaa for her photo and explanation of why she loved the book Butter.  Congratgulations to Najlaa!

We plan to hold this competition in all of our schools next year as it was such a success. So pupils start thinking of what is your favourite book and why you like it and we will begin thinking about our costumes!  Maybe next year Ali and I will choose costumes from the same book – who knows?
