Our mission is to give young people, particularly those who are at a socio-economic disadvantage, the character skills they need to choose their future and contribute to the wider world.
Book Clubs in Schools (BCiS) is a charity that offers a cross-age peer mentoring programme to pupils during the school day. We help young people develop a lifelong love of reading, learn to think critically and creatively, build communications and character skills, and also offer volunteering opportunities. Character skills are defined as confidence, social skills, resilience and motivation. Being part of the club generates mental wellbeing through a combination of social engagement and reading for pleasure. We work in primary and secondary schools across London and Birmingham.
Book Clubs in Schools was founded by Beth Ginsburg and Ali Palmer.
Ali brings her sense of humour and a practical approach to Book Clubs in Schools. She learnt her ‘get real’ attitude from working as an Account Director for Exhibitions and Publishing.
Beth brings her enthusiasm and an American ‘can-do’ attitude to Book Clubs in Schools. Beth has worked in the not for profit world in research and project management.
