Schools Library Services in London and the UK

SLS-UK is a collective of Schools Library Services covering the length and breadth of the UK.  Through our subscriptions, consultancy and librarian services, we work with schools to help them develop hubs for learning, exploration and self-development.  In London, our aim is to offer every school the advantage of our service, whether or not there is a Schools Library Service in their borough

Loans Service
We’re passionate about providing schools with cost-effective resources, including artefacts, posters, costumes and classroom guides. Curated by SLS librarians, our resource boxes help teachers to connect content with the curriculum in an innovative and up-to-date manner.  Our fiction boxes and class sets promote reading for pleasure.

We help schools with everything from developing whole libraries to working directly with teaching staff to revitalise and reinvigorate old tired library areas, turning them into colourful, vibrant, warm and exciting spaces.  However, work doesn’t stop there.  A library without trained staff to run it is just a room full of books.  We can train the person that schools nominate to be responsible for the school library or better still, provide the school with a qualified school librarian to work in the library for however many hours are required.  Putting the expertise of an SLS librarian into the heart of your library provision will have a positive impact on teaching, learning and reading for pleasure.

Reading for Pleasure and Learning
We support learning in its widest sense – working with your staff to stimulate reading for pleasure, drawing on our vast experience of innovative initiatives such as author visits, competitions, themed reading activities, book clubs and local book awards.  Using the latest books and available resources, our librarians help teachers introduce children to new learning experiences based on access to a wide range of content to spark interest and excitement in all students from reluctant readers to gifted and talented readers and those with special needs.

The relationship between our experienced, qualified librarians and school staff is a key part of our provision. We are always at the end of a phone call or email to help, advise, support and provide tailor-made resources for the unique needs of your staff.
