13 Aug Make Happiness Happen
August is #HappinessHappensMonth, an entire month dedicated to doing what makes you happy.
We’ve reconnected with friends, visited family, rode a bike, practised yoga, planned a holiday, written in our journals, updated our vision board, volunteered and finally got to reading those unread books on our shelves.
According to happiness expert and bestselling author Gretchen Rubin, “making time to read is a key to happiness”. And we do make time to read daily; individually, with our adult book clubs and weekly school book clubs, but with balancing everything else in our schedules we often end up reading less than we’d like.
Gretchen’s advice for reading more include: “schedule time to read, don’t be afraid to quit a book you don’t enjoy, and read what you love.” Got it.
Read on for three books that have recently made our happy list.
Holes by Louis Sachar
A brilliant book filled with twists and turns, intertwining themes and dark humour, Holes will have you hooked from start to finish.
The Roads to Sata: A 2000 Mile Walk Through Japan by Alan Booth
Alan Booth’s storytelling takes travel writing to another level, engaging readers through an intimate yet humorous account of his long journey through Japan’s countryside.
Such A Pretty Face by Cathy Lamb
This transformative story will evoke every emotion and have you not looking back on the person you once were but the person you have become.
