03 Jun Watch our Instagram Lives with leading authors
We normally run our book clubs in schools, but as schools closed for lockdown we wanted to keep in touch with our readers. So we’ve been running a version of our book clubs on Instagram.
First up was a readalong – The Goldfish Boy by Lisa Thompson. We posted questions for four weeks and then Lisa joined us on Instagram. To talk about her books and motivation for writing. Lisa has been sharing writing tips on her Instagram page on Monday mornings.
Our second Instagram Live was with Amanda Li, the author of the Blue Peter award-winning Rise Up: Ordinary Kids with Extraordinary Stories. She tells us all about the book and life as a writer:
This is our Instagram Live with Patrice Lawrence. Published in 2016, her first YA book Orangeboy won The Bookseller’s YA Book Prize 2017, the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize for Older Children 2017, and was shortlisted for the 2016 Costa Children’s Book Award. Her latest book is Eight Pieces of Silva.
In this Live, Patrice continues to talk then hands over (but stays posting comments) to Alex Wheatle. Alex is the author of the Crongton series of YA books. Liccle Bit was longlisted for the Carnegie Medal in 2016 and Crongton Knights won the 50th Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize.
We were delighted to talk to Tom Palmer on the publication of his latest (and 50th!) book, After the War.
